Co-produced, recorded and mixed by Peter Walsh, The World To Come soundtrack sees Daniel receive his first Ivor Novello Award. Directed by Mona Fastvold, the film had its world premiere at the 77th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Queer Lion award for best LGBTQ themed film.
The World to Come is a 2020 American drama film from a screenplay by Ron Hansen and Jim Shepard, based upon Shepard’s story of the same name. It stars Katherine Waterston, Vanessa Kirby, Christopher Abbott and Casey Affleck, and follows two neighbouring couples battling hardship and isolation in mid-19th century America.
Alejandro Sanz new album, mixed by Peter Walsh at e2immersive, London and PKO, Madrid was awarded platinum status on its first day of release and has entered the Spanish Album Chart at # 1.
Peter Walsh has returned to a much-loved genre and mixed all ten of these flamenco-influenced classics. He also recorded the rhythm section featuring Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez on drums, Israel ‘Piraña’ Suárez on percussion and Miami-based Gola on bass guitar.
It’s a retrospective collection, including a narrated and deeply intimate autobiography, a love song by Alejandro’s godfather with strings by Vincent Mendoza and a posthumous flamenco collaboration with Paco de Lucia.

Across the months of August, September, October and November 2020, four classic Peter Gabriel concerts will be released on vinyl by Real World. Three of them for the first time. A twenty-year period of live performance is captured by the four releases, and over forty different songs.
All the albums have been Half-Speed Remastered and cut to lacquers at 33RPM by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering, mastered by Tony Cousins at Metropolis and overseen by Peter Gabriel’s sound engineer Richard Chappell. The LPs also come with a hi-res audio download code.
The series commences with Plays Live, Peter Gabriel’s first live album from 1983, which will be re-released on 2LP on 28 August. The album was compiled from live recordings made at four venues across the American Midwest in late 1982. It is effectively a sign-off to the first phase of Peter Gabriel the solo artist. As such, it’s a celebration of all that was achieved on his opening quartet of self-titled long-players, while also standing as confirmation that Peter was an engaged and engaging frontman. The 2LP artwork replicates the original vinyl release with all imagery newly re-scanned.
A month later, we jump forward musically to the tour that supported the release of Peter Gabriel’s fifth solo album, ‘So’, with the release of Live in Athens 1987 on 25 September. Recorded at the open-air theatre above the Greek capital, ‘Live in Athens 1987’, captures the final shows of the This Way Up world tour and five musicians at the peak of their game, playing the songs from the album that had catapulted Gabriel into the pop stratosphere. The show features a special guest appearance by the young Youssou N’Dour on a rousing rendition of ‘In Your Eyes’. Though previously a concert film, this is the first time on vinyl for ‘Live in Athens 1987’, presented as a 2LP set, with brand new artwork by Marc Bessant, Gabriel’s long-time designer.
By the third release, on 23 October, we find ourselves immersed in the spectacle of the Secret World Live tour. Conceived by Gabriel and Robert Lepage, this is the show that accompanied the release of the ‘US’ album and features a collection of songs that spans Gabriel’s solo career until that point; from debut single ‘Solsbury Hill’ to ‘Digging In The Dirt’, ‘Steam’ and ‘Blood Of Eden’. All delivered in a thoroughly committed and total performance by Gabriel and band and recorded over two nights at the Palasport in Modena, Italy in November 1993. Special guest appearance by Papa Wemba. This is the first time on vinyl for ‘Secret World Live’, which is presented as a 2LP set.
The last release of this series is Growing Up Live, released on 27 November. Following the release of his album ‘UP’, Peter Gabriel went on the road for the first time in a decade. Once again collaborating with production designer Robert Lepage to create a spectacular and theatrical live experience, with the band performing in the round. The concert was recorded over two nights at the Filaforum in Milan in May 2003 and features notable contributions from the likes of The Blind Boys of Alabama, Hukwe and Charles Zawose, Sevara Nazarkhan and the voice of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Previously a concert film, it is the first time on vinyl for ‘Growing Up Live’, presented as a 3LP set in gatefold sleeve, designed by Marc Bessant.

On&On – which follows 2018’s Minus, Blumberg’s debut for Mute – is a consolidation of the deconstructed song aesthetic he has developed, operating at the intersection between conventional song structures and free improvisation. Now he takes this further, incorporating recurring, shape-shifting motifs and at times dissolving the boundaries between songs altogether. Title track ‘On&On’ appears four times across the arc of the record as if coming in and out of focus, an infinite song that encapsulates the paradox of the circle, existing in a liminal space between perpetual motion and stasis, as Daniel sings: ‘On and on and on and on and on…’
The album was born out of live sessions with the same core group of players as Minus: Daniel Blumberg (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Ute Kanngiesser (cello), Billy Steiger (violin), Tom Wheatley (double bass) and Jim White (drums), with the addition of electronic maverick Elvin Brandhi (vocals). As such it represents a deepening of relationships and distillation of techniques for this tight-knit group of free-playing musicians, who are loosely based around Café OTO.
It was recorded by Peter Walsh (Scott Walker), who captures the group’s extraordinary performances – encompassing the full expressive range of their instruments from softly-bowed melodies and tender vocal harmonies to rough-hewn scrapes, plucks and rattles – while the sound of the room and the outside world spill naturally into the sound field, as Toop puts it “as if a window has opened”.

Daniel Blumberg’s Minus is an astonishing work; one that weds an improvisational, free-music ethos to the rawest emotional songwriting, rooted deep in the personal turmoil Blumberg experienced whilst making the record. Minus is an album about breakdowns: relationship breakdowns, mental and physical breakdowns, breakdowns in communication, and the breaking down of received methods and practices. And situated at the broken-down heart of the record lies a pathological preoccupation with a breakdown of trust. But out of all this, and through the arteries of the album’s seven tracks, pulses a sense of growing fortitude and an almost mantra-like effort to create a way back into the world. Key refrains sound like the fevered incantations of a soul willing itself to recover, to find its voice again, and to resurrect the broken-down self.
Still only 27 years old, Blumberg has written himself a rich musical history; from his teenage band who signed to XL whilst he was still at school, onto and through the projects of Yuck, Oupa and Hebronix, whilst solidifying close creative partnerships with the likes of David Berman (Silver Jews), Low, Lambchop and Royal Trux’s Neil Michael Hagerty (with whom Blumberg has performed as a member of the Howling Hex). With Minus, though, there is a sense that Daniel Blumberg has finally arrived at the place he has been searching for.
Minus pulls the listener into the deep and nuanced reaches of the human soul and proceeds to drag them through all its fractured ventricles. Although the album’s approach can be traced back to improvised avant-garde experimentation, the overriding impact for the listener is Blumberg’s remarkable songwriting, and his natural talent for melody and composition. Minus stands as an arresting and progressive work, one which is set to establish Daniel Blumberg as one of Britain’s most unique contemporary voices.

Throughout our 36- year long working relationship we shared a passion for capturing the sounds and emotions that came from deep inside his creative soul and in our musical journeys together we collaborated with many of the finest musicians in the world.
His voice was like no other I have recorded. Sometimes like velvet, like silk, sometimes like a shard of metal or glass hitting you when you least expected.
Above all Scott was a gentleman. He loved the music business. He loved his team of musicians and technicians, was loyal to everyone he worked with, committed and uncompromising.
There will never be another recording artist quite like him.
Goodbye Scott, my friend. We worked hard and had a lot of laughs along the way.

26/07/16 – On 29th July 2016 Universal Music release a six-disc box set of what is considered by many to be Simple Minds’ finest album, NEW GOLD DREAM – Produced by Peter Walsh.
03/07/16 – Peter presented a Mixing Workshop at the Abbey Rd Institute, Frankfurt in the brand new flagship SSL studio.

14/09/15 – With a stunning score by Scott Walker, Childhood of a Leader won the “Luigi de Laurentiis” Venice Award for a Debut Film on Saturday. Director Brady Corbet also won the Best Director Horizons award.

Nov 2012 – Peter has recently been at Doghouse Studios in Henley, UK, recording tracks for the debut James Stevenson album.
An EP will be available at the end of January 2013. James will be playing with The Alarm at The Gathering on 25/26/27 January in North Wales.
Oct 2012 – Following Simple Minds’ landmark 5 X 5 shows and the accompanying X5 box set, EMI will release a double live album of the tour on November 19th. Simple Minds will be on tour in the UK during March/April 2013.
