Spandau Ballet’s Chant No. 1 (I Don’t Need This Pressure On) peaked at #3 on the UK Singles Chart in July 1981, spending 11 weeks on the chart. It was the first single released from their second album, Diamond, which was produced by Richard James Burgess. The album was recorded at Utopia Studios, London.

Peter Walsh was one of the Utopia engineers involved in the making of this album, including the recording of the Beggar & Co horn section on this track.

The BPI awarded the single Silver certification on 1 August for shipment of over 250,000 units.

In the US, the remix included on the 12-inch single of "Chant No. 1" got as high as # 17 on Billboard magazine's Disco Top 100.
